It's Charlotte Film Festival Week
Matt at the Movies is reporting from the Red Carpet from September 23-28.

The Independent Picture House is once again hosting the Charlotte Film Festival, presented by the Charlotte Film Society.
The festival, in its 17th year, runs through September 28th, featuring animated shorts, documentaries (features/shorts), student shorts, and full-length features mixed in with special presentations and guests. Locally filmed major release Roofman (starring Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst, and Peter Dinklage) kicked off the festival, Hollywood style, at the newly renovated Carolina Theatre in uptown Charlotte.
The IPH executive team and their large group of volunteers make this festival a truly unique cultural event each year in Charlotte. For more details about the festival, viewing packages, and to purchase single tickets, click on this link.
In the meantime, be on the lookout for more from the festival over the next week!
In the Cannes
Speaking of film festivals …
In early Spring, the Cannes Film Festival kicked off with Jury President Juliette Binoche presenting Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi (No Bears/Taxi) with the Palme d’Or — the top prize in the main competition — for his drama It Was Just an Accident.
Telluride just wrapped up with Oscar-buzzworthy films including Oliver Hermanus’ The History of Sound and Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, among dozens of other mid- to major-releases shown in the idyllic Colorado town.
On the manmade archipelago in Italy, Venice Film Festival concluded with Jim Jarmusch’s film Father Mother Sister Brother taking home the prestigious Golden Lion award for best film, while Bennie Safdie won for director with The Smashing Machine.
The Toronto International Film Festival just wrapped this past week, and Hamnet brought home the top prize with the People’s Choice Award.
Finally, the New York Film Festival is set to begin at the end of the month to wrap the major festival season leading up to awards season and the Academy Awards.
