Shoutout
Thanks to Tony Mecia and the Charlotte Ledger for their Y'all Weekly shoutout this week. Like Tony, Queen City Nerve & Y’all Weekly, there are tons of folks across our region working as hard as they can with limited resources to fill the local news vacuum in Charlotte. On the Record
Each week, Y’all Weekly brings you exclusive on-the-record quote from a local leader about a big issue facing Charlotte or the Carolinas. Today’s quote is from Congressman Jeff Jackson, from his interview with Y’all Weekly’s Jesse Boykin Kimmel:
“When trust drops to zero, character no longer counts for much. It can’t be a disqualifier ... When character no longer counts, the only people you’ll trust are the ones who keep telling you that ‘no one here can be trusted.’ That ‘these are all your enemies.’ This is the con man paradise. Which is why we’ve seen an influx of especially obvious grifters in Congress.”
This Week’s Stories
Final Thoughts
On Saturday, March 18, Charlotte FC got their first win of the season after an 0-3 start. I pulled triple duty this week and wrote an article about Charlotte’s inauspicious start for Queen City Nerve.
This part of the article seemed prescient:
When Nerve caught up with [Kerwin] Vargas after the following loss to St. Louis, he said via a translator, “I bring a lot of intensity, and when I’m not in the game I try to keep my head in the game mentally … We feel the weight of the missed opportunities, but if we stay in it and keep trying, the goals will come.”
Vargas went on to score one of Charlotte’s two goals in their 1-2 win in Orlando yesterday. Special thanks to Y’all Weekly contributor Adrian Singerman for his help with French and Spanish translations this month.
